If you don’t like running but want to get good cardio, try rucking. Rucking is simply walking with a weighted rucksack and will require strength, endurance, and character. To get started, simply get a rucksack (or a backpack) and begin walking around.
While it is true that all you need is a plain old backpack – you might get more out of it if you purchase specialized equipment.

Rucksacks from GORUCK – Overview
Rucksacks are made to accommodate plenty of weight over time and distance and have military origins in heavy load carriage. Whether you are traveling, training, rucking, or you’re in the military, or if you’re commuting on the cruel streets of NYC, the main job of your rucksack is to hold weight very well. Rucksacks from GORUCK are developed and proven in the most brutal conditions known to man by United States Army Special Forces soldiers working in war zones.
The materials utilized thrive in all environments and settings. GORUCK rucksacks are used and abused on GORUCK Events and have the Scars Lifetime Guarantee. These rucksacks rest high on your back and secure the weight close to your body, which is the most efficient way to carry weight.
Rucker 3.0 (20L/20L Small Frame/25L)
The Rucker 3.0 comes with a newly redesigned, broader, and more rigid Training Sternum Strap to better distribute heavy loads. It is also the most comfortable rucksack ever built because of its ergonomic lumbar support and an all-new, less abrasive fabric used on the back panel and underside of the shoulder straps. The Rucker 3.0 has an external slant pocket that provides fast access to small items and bottom grommet drain holes.
It has a Hi-vis reflective stripe across the front for safety and a frame sheet that supports the integrity of the Rucker as you weigh it down and permits you to carry a weightier load more comfortably. It also has an interior D-ring and hydration tube exit port under the top handle of the ruck.

GR1 – Made in the USA (21L/26L)
All hail the GR1!
GR1® is the toughest rucksack ever built and flourishes in cities, warzones, and traveling the world while rucking. It has one large elastic pocket, one large mesh zippered pocket, one small go-to pocket internally, and one external slant pocket for quick access to keys, snacks, and other small items. It opens flat, so packing and organizing are easier.
It isn’t GORUCK’s oldest product (that would be the GR0) – but it is certainly the one that made them famous.
The bombproof laptop compartment next to your back is extra supported and has a false bottom so that when you set your ruck down, your laptop won’t be noticed. It has a removable, rigid plastic frame sheet that stabilizes the laptop compartment and lets you take more weight pleasantly.
We don’t recommend you take a laptop when you ruck, and likewise don’t take a ruck plate when you travel.
The GR1 is versatile for sure, as it will handle either activity. But – do you want to get your EDC/Travel bag all gross and stinky out on the ruck march?
Bullet Ruck (15L)
The Bullet Ruck (15L) uses a 210D back panel and under-shoulder straps so you can wear it with a tank top or even shirtless without friction burns no matter the weight in the Bullet. It has a streamlined design with only a single compartment and three interior pockets, including one for your Ruck Plate. You can use it as your EDC (Everyday Carry) as it is easy to pack and organize.
The hydration bladder clips into the interior D-ring with a carabiner and feed the hose via the exit port under the top handle of the ruck. It also has three rows of external MOLLE webbing that allow you to customize with other MOLLE-friendly accessories.
GR2 – Made in the USA (26L/34L/40L )
You can travel the whole world with just a GR2. It has all the pockets and organization you’ll need in a bag and is carry-on compliant. It opens flat for easier packing and organizing and has extra padded straps and a top handle to carry heavier loads easily.
The bottom panel is constructed out of 1050d Ballistic Nylon that is very durable and water and abrasion-resistant. It uses YKK zippers with silent, glove-friendly zipper pulls made from a parachute 550 cord. GR2 has an inner compartment with three pockets, three pockets, and a built-in field pocket.
GR2 Carryology Kaidan (34L)
GR2 is rigid and created for people who want to travel anywhere outside an airport. It is carry-on compliant, hands-free, and has a bombproof laptop compartment with a design patterned after Special Forces medical rucks.
GR2 has a limited Edition Leather Patch developed by Argentina-based Artist/Illustrator Sebastián Cabrol. It has two leather handles on the top and bottom for a quick grab and go and uses Waterproof YKK AquaGuard exterior zippers.
GR3 – Made in the USA (45L)
The GR3 – 45L is the biggest possible carry-on. It uses the Special Forces Grade 1000D CORDURA® that is highly water-resistant with extra padded straps to carry heavier loads more comfortably. It has a padded top handle, and two padded side handles ideal for taking to the airport, pulling out of the overhead bin, or camping and hiking.
It has a separate Bombproof Laptop Compartment next to your back that is extra fortified to firmly take a laptop into combat and fits a 17″+ laptop. GR3 also has four rows of MOLLE on the front and two on the bottom to store your sleeping bag.
Ruck Plate Carrier
The Ruck Plate Carrier 3.0™ is the sleekest and the most efficient way to add weight to your workouts. It is a newly redesigned, wider, and tougher Training Sternum Strap that disperse heavy loads excellently. It includes an adjustable training sternum strap and a durable ballistic nylon bottom panel.
It uses less abrasive fabric on the back panel and underside of the shoulder straps, so you can wear it shirtless with no friction burn. The shoulder straps are extra padded, and the top lid protects you during dynamic movements.
Training Weight Vest
The Training Weight Vest is made to be very comfortable that you can wear it shirtless. It uses the Rucker’s shoulder straps and sized and contoured them to make the world’s best Training Weight Vest. It is compatible with Ruck Plates up to 2x 30 LBS and other training plates while keeping the weight solid and steady even while running.
The primary material is made from 500D CORDURA® while the interior is made from 210D CORDURA®. The Velcro Plate Closure is made from 1050 Ballistic Nylon, and it has two waist belt straps measuring 19.5″ each.
Rucker 4.0
Get stronger with Rucker 4.0, the purpose-built for rucking rucksack. It is enhanced to keep your equipment a lot easier. The interior zippers are replaced with velcro, and the front exterior zipper pocket is removed. It is the most comfortable rucksack ever made with revised padding on the top of the plate pocket for bear crawls. Rucker 4.0 has four padded handles on the top, bottom, and both sides and uses YKK zippers with silent, glove-friendly zipper pulls made from parachute 550 cord.
It has lumbar padding that supports the natural curve of your back and has an interior D-ring and hydration tube exit port under the top handle of the ruck. It comes in 20L and 25L and colors of Black and Tropic Multicam. The 20L has two Velcro mesh pockets and Velcro Ruck Plate Pocket, while the 25L has two Velcro mesh pockets and two Ruck Plate Pockets. Both have a 2″x3″ hook and loop on the front panel to customize with the patch of your choice and an additional 2″x3″ hook and loop patch panel on the Ruck Plate® pocket.
Rucker Long Range
Wear your Rucker Long Range shirtless and get no friction burn at all. It has padded straps and the fabric used on the back panel and underside of the shoulder straps are gentle on skin. There is also Lumbar Support through an extra 10mm of EVA foam padding along the bottom area of the back panel that supports the natural curve of your back. It is raised to protect you from friction from seams on pants or belts.
It has two large compartments and numerous pockets to give you plenty of room for supplies, and you can keep everything in its place. Rucker Long Range is available in 33L and 39L and comes with a Training Sternum Strap. It is highly water-resistant with bottom grommet drain holes and interior D-ring and hydration tube exit port under the top handle of the ruck.
Rucker 3.0
Because of its ergonomic lumbar support and an all-new, less abrasive fabric, Rucker 3.0 is the most comfortable rucking backpack ever built. It has three rows of external MOLLE webbing on the front, and the side lets you customize your ruck, like adding a padded hip belt. Available in 20L and 25L, Rucker 3.0 comes with a newly redesigned, wider, and more rigid Training Sternum Strap to better distribute heavy loads.
It also has a frame sheet that supports the pack’s integrity as you weigh it down and lets you take a heavier load easier. It has four internal pockets — one large mesh zippered pocket, one small go-to zippered pocket, one large elastic pocket, and the Ruck Plate® pocket.
